In its 1997 annual report, Safeguard Scientifics released a list of guiding principles, which included returning value to shareholders, promoting integrity in every interaction, fostering a culture that generates excitement and encourages inventiveness, recruiting and retaining a talented team of motivated individuals, demonstrating generosity, compassion and leadership, and driving satisfaction, enjoyment and personal pride.

Safeguard had been embodying these principles since inception, though this 1997 declaration fortified them in stone. Safeguard continues to build upon these foundational principles today.
