In the midst of a growing automotive-owning populous, Lancaster Corporation recognized the lucrative possibilities in the automotive replacement parts market. With that, Safeguard Automotive Corporation formed as a subsidiary of Lancaster Corporation to serve the needs of America’s rapidly growing number of aging cars, trucks and buses.

By 1967, Safeguard Automotive Corporation consisted of two distinct segments, the Automotive Parts Group and the Power Transmission Group, employing more than 2,000 people at 12 production facilities throughout the United States.
