2004 was a strong year for Safeguard Scientifics, with two deals that strengthened the company’s balance sheet. First, Platinum Equity acquired Safeguard partner company CompuCom, then a majority-owned subsidiary of Safeguard Scientifics. The transaction generated $128 million in gross cash proceeds for Safeguard and enabled the company to complete its strategic shift to a focus on time-to-volume companies, which offered stronger prospects for growth.

That same year, Fidelity National Financial acquired Sanchez Computer Associates. Together, these deals represent two of the top 10 deals in Safeguard’s history.
