Brian has 25+ years of experience working with start-up and development-stage companies in various positions, including external legal counsel, internal counsel, executive officer, investor and consultant. In addition, Brian has managed more than 20 public offerings and negotiated dozens of M&A and financing transactions as a buyer, seller, investor, lender, borrower and issuer, involving billions of dollars of capital.

At Safeguard, Brian is responsible for legal affairs, mergers & acquisitions, support of Safeguard’s Board and public company activities, and direct participation in Safeguard’s business strategy. He is also responsible for managing compensation and performance programs at Safeguard. Brian has been a senior executive and general counsel to two Safeguard partner companies. In both situations, Brian was instrumental in negotiating and consummating exit transactions for the companies. Currently, Brian is a board member of Safeguard partner companies AdvantEdge Healthcare Solutions, NovaSom and Penn Mezzanine.

Brian came to Safeguard in 2007 from Traffic.com, a Safeguard Partner Company Alumnae and a leading provider of accurate, real-time traffic information in the United States, where he was Senior Vice President and General Counsel. Brian's legal, corporate finance, general management background and extensive public company experience proved invaluable to Traffic.com during the process of its acquisition by NAVTEQ Corporation (NYSE: NVT).

Previously, Brian was Chief Operating Officer of Halo Technology Holdings, a public holding company for enterprise software businesses. Prior to that, he was Managing Director at Katalyst LLC, a venture capital and consulting firm; Senior Vice President and General Counsel of National Media Corporation, a public multimedia company with operations in 70 countries; and was a Partner at Klehr, Harrison, Harvey, Branzburg & Ellers LLP, a full-service Philadelphia-based law firm.

Brian is a native of the greater Philadelphia region. He received a B.S. from Bucknell University and a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
