Brian has 25+ years of experience working with start-up and growth-stage companies having served as an executive officer, investor, external legal counsel, internal counsel, and consultant. In addition, Brian has managed more than 20 public offerings and negotiated dozens of mergers and acquisitions, strategic partnerships, and business development and financing transactions as a buyer, seller, investor, lender, borrower and issuer, involving billions of dollars of capital.

As Executive Vice President and Managing Director - Strategy, Development and Operations at Safeguard, Brian is responsible for Safeguard’s business development and platform expansion strategies, legal affairs, mergers & acquisitions, and support of Safeguard’s board and public company activities. Brian has been a senior executive at two Safeguard partner companies. In both situations, Brian was instrumental in negotiating and consummating exit transactions for the companies. Currently, Brian is a board member of Safeguard partner companies AdvantEdge Healthcare Solutions, NovaSom, NuPathe (NASDAQ:PATH), and Penn Mezzanine.

Brian joined Safeguard in 2007 as Senior Vice President and General Counsel. Prior to that, Brian was Senior Vice President and General Counsel at Traffic.com, a Safeguard partner company alumnae and a leading provider of accurate, real-time traffic information in the United States. Brian's background and experience proved invaluable to Traffic.com when it was acquired by NAVTEQ Corporation (NYSE:NVT).

Previously, Brian was Chief Operating Officer of Halo Technology Holdings, a public holding company for enterprise software businesses. Prior to that, he was Managing Director at Katalyst LLC, a venture capital and consulting firm; Senior Vice President and General Counsel of National Media Corporation, a public multimedia company with operations in 70 countries; and was a Partner at Klehr, Harrison, Harvey, Branzburg & Ellers LLP, a full-service Philadelphia-based law firm.

Brian is a native of the greater Philadelphia region. He received a B.S. from Bucknell University and a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
